Lani’s Universe #FeatureFriday

It’s #FeatureFriday, folks! I was going to do this two weeks ago, buuut an idea popped into my head. Well, somebody sort of gave me an idea. I decided giving a voice recording post a go. UNFORTUNATELY, my resources fell short of making that a reality for now.

Now! Just to explain, for #FeatureFriday that’s supposed to come out every two weeks, I will be featuring people, places and things. Primarily, I aim to introduce blogs and/or bloggers I like and sites I enjoy. This is my way of thanking them for adding joy into my life. 🙂

So first up, we’ve got…

lani-v-cox-blog

Lani V. Cox is an American expat with Thai and Chinese roots. Her whole story as to how she became American, she has already shared in her blog. It’s an interesting story, I promise. Read the About page. Whenever you visit a blog, always read the About page to get to know the blogger more and…well, because I said so! No buts!

lani-v-coxI’ve been blog friends with Lani V. Cox since 2014, I think (I did some checking). Sometimes, we kind of lose touch with each other, not that we’re personal friends as we just met here in the blogosphere. She becomes busy, I become busy, or both of us become busy. That’s why we are unable to blog at times or to actually follow blogs we have committed to follow.  Such is the life of a blogger.

Lani has been to different places, often for work. So she’s had a taste of various cultures and these, she unselfishly shares to her readers. Her blog’s about teaching (her profession), writing and traveling.

Sometimes, she waxes nostalgic, but usually, she shares how life is where she’s currently at, the people she meets at times, the places she goes to, her job, her living conditions, anecdotes here and there. As I love to learn about other cultures, she certainly gives me lessons by bits and pieces. It also makes me snicker or smile whenever she mentions stuff in Southeast Asia that I, as a Southeast Asian, can relate to, good or bad–it’s my cue for a good, little online tete-a-tete. What I love most about her is her free spirit and sense of humor, plus the fact that she gave me my first-ever blog award, he he!

I think shethe-missing-teacher‘s one of those people that others almost-immediately warms up to. She’s smart, too, which keeps me going back to her blog. I like her voice very much–listen to her audio-recording of posts (do you now have an inkling of who made me think of audio-recording mine?).

Her writing can be quite engaging and–oh, speaking of writing!–she’s written a book!!! (nice segue, eh? *wink*). It’s called the missing teacher, but don’t ask me why the title’s in small caps as I haven’t asked her yet. In her own words,

the missing teacher explores the personality of education, looks into one of the most controversial education systems, and is a story about the education of self.

Ooh, makes you want to get a hold of it, yah? Do get a hold of it!

So, guys, get with it and visit Lani at her blog Life, the Universe and Lani. I wouldn’t give her this award if she’s not worth it. Oops, yeah, I forgot to mention that. Featured bloggers automatically get the Blogger Recognition Award (click on the image below to know more).

Hey, Lani! This is yours! Feel free to do what you want with this wonderful award 🙂

June 2016 RECAP #MonthlyRecap

Thought I’d do a recap thing, why not? So how was my June 2016?

busy-bloggerBlog-wise. It seems June was so far one of my most active months as a blogger. I’m even surprised at my stats lately (must be something different I did that I didn’t exactly do intentionally?). I actually have several guesses why, based on what I know about blogging, and maybe I’ll keep on doing them. Hopefully.

Anyway, I have been widgeting (fidgeting with widgets…sorry, I just love playing with words). I have also been messing with the settings so y’all who’ve been following me (bless your good souls!) would’ve noticed some things. Maybe. Aside from the change in the landing page, the other changes aren’t exactly noticeable so I’m probably just making myself believe you’ve noticed, he he. Oh, but I’m not really done yet exploring and changing stuff.

awards-and-certificationdid add a new page, the Awards Gallery. I gave in to the temptation (sorry). Just wanted/want to show how much I appreciate fellow bloggers who appreciate blogger me. Meanwhile, it’s an opportunity to also share my shiny new badges (one more to add, hopefully soon). Currently not sure how doing that is going to help me, it’s just I like them, okay? Makes me feel that I’ve achieved something worthwhile as a professional. Goodness, I haven’t studied this hard since I graduated from college, which was eons ago. Tremendous blow to my self-esteem if I didn’t pass, to be honest.

Fiction-writing.  I gave in to Wattpad. Technically, that was in late May, but that’s as good as June. I posted my story Obsession but haven’t posted anything new since then.

Joined that writing community for three major reasons:

  1. My stories might have more chance of getting read there by more people who actually like to read stories. I’m just being honest here. We’re all bloggers in WordPress, but not all have the patience to read fiction. This other “WP” is currently the It place to be if you want to be read. I’m still trying it on for size, you know?
  2. I really would like to push myself to write fiction again. I’ve been in quite a lull, it’s not even funny. I am going to develop my novel there, plus, I am going back to stories I did or started many years ago and rewrite them. Of course, I will be updating you guys.
  3. It’s…a bit personal.

After this, I’m gonna be heading over there to post something again.

Personal. Hmnnn…J.Gi has it better than Jennifer, I can tell you that. Lots of problems that never seem to stop. But we always move on, right? For now, I’d rather concentrate on that. My blog has been a bit sad these past 15 months, more or less. So I’d like to focus on the happy parts.

I got to finish another Sue Monk Kidd book, The Mermaid Chair. I’ve just started around 12 hours ago with Son of a Witch. I mentioned a few posts ago that I would be reading. Not as fast as I’d like to go, but at least, I’m going 🙂

fathers-day

Well, the highlight of June was our family’s first actual celebration of Father’s Day. The hubby works hard in his own way, but he has been feeling down a lot these past months due to “outside forces” who never seem to tire at focusing on his supposed inadequacies and not looking at another direction, such as in front of them where a mirror should be. I never tire of telling him I appreciate all that he does for the family and that things are bound to be better…

I decided to cheer him up and our little family went to the arcade for some fun and games then we gobbled on some pasta, pizza and ice cream at Pizza Hut. That was the first milestone for us, celebrating Father’s Day. The second milestone was I was finally able to have some pics developed, including our family photo, and put them on the empty frame that has been hanging on display in our living room for months! We’ve got no real albums (online ones only) yet so that’s gonna be one of my many projects. Heck, I have been at it even when my parents were still here.

Alright, I’m done with June 2016. Do expect more changes within July. Thanksies!!!!

Recognition Award #atozchallenge2015

Alright, there have been very sad news lately about terrorism. But as we say, life has to go on. Please do not think this insensitive just because I have decided to post about an unrelated subject. It doesn’t mean I don’t care. My last post will tell you. Anyway,…

Current life issues/concerns have been hindering me to post regularly here, so kindly forgive me. But before I continue, let me first thank all those who have decided to click “Follow” and especially those who actually do and read/like/comment on my posts. You are all very much-appreciated.

Apologies to new followers whom I have not said a thank-you nor a single hello to. The more active me does that. Right now, as much as I want to be that active, physical conditions tell me to sloooooow down. Whether I like it or not, I have to.

So to you all, I give this…

I do give recognition to all serious bloggers out there, regardless of whether you write or not, if you are an actual writer or a hesitant writer or a wannabe-writer. As long as you give it your time and importance and do an honest work on your blog, I salute you all.

Special thanks to Tobe Damit of Loud Alien Noize for giving me this award. I still have other “unanswered” awards and as a rule, I follow a sort of first-come, first-served thing. However, I have decided to skip to this one because finally–finally!–I found THE award! Christine, here it is!

In my post “Don’t Go Hatin’ on Blog Awards“, Christine “Christa” Robinson and I discussed about creating an award that should be focused more on rewarding a blogger for his/her efforts and not on following any rules attached to the award that has become quite a turn-off to most bloggers (oh, the pressure!!!).

Given that at the end of this post, you will see that this award does come with rules as well, I think I need not create a whole new award. The name of this one says it all — BLOGGER RECOGNITION AWARD. This is enough for me and I will give it away whenever I see fit. And because I believe that awards are supposed to be given freely, I free any awardee from any obligation to follow the rules below, that is, if s/he chooses to be freed.

Rules:

  1. Write a post explaining why you started blogging along with a few tips. (Note: Maybe I’ll answer this one one of these days)
  2. Nominate some of your fellow bloggers.
  3. Comment on their blogs to let them know you’ve nominated them.

There you go! I hope you all enjoy your award. Feel free to grab it and share as well 🙂

Thought I’d hit two birds with one stone, so let this post serve as my “R” post for my almost year-long #AtoZchallenge.
